Judith Carole's Story
My Life
I live in sunny, St. Petersburg, Florida. I married my junior high school sweetheart, Manley (Phil) Phillip Croom, Jr. We met at church. He took me to the ninth grade prom, when we were students at Alexander Graham Jr. High. We broke up after two months and didn't see each other for twelve years. In the meantime, I transferred to Pine Forest High School. I finished school and married my high school sweetheart, but it was doomed from the word go. We separated when my son was 7 months old and later divorced. Thank God! Phil and I met when I was working at a motorcycle shop in 1972 and we were married twenty one days later. It was the best decision I ever made. We had been married for thirty-nine years and never had an argument. We had a very special relationship.
We have four children and eight grandchildren,(five boys and three girls).
We liked to travel when we ciould, we also liked to camp. We went fishing whenever we could.
We tried to get to Fayetteville at least once a year
I am sad to say that I lost my soulmate on September 21, 2011. I miss him terribly.
School
I started my scholastic career at Ramsey Street School in 1952. in Fayetteville, North Carolina. I attended the third grade at Hildebran Elem School in Hickory, North Carolina. In 1954, my father was transferred to Munich, Germany, where I attended the American School from the fourth to the sixth grades. We were shipped back to the United States and I finished my year in the sixth grade, again at Hildebran Elem School in Hickory, North Carolina. We headed to New Jersey, where my father was stationed and I attended the seventh and eighth grades in Long Branch, New Jersey. We were transferred to Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where I finished the eighth and ninth grades at Alexander Graham Junior High School. I attended the tenth grade a...Expand for more

Workplace
Right out after graduation, I went to work for the Post Exchange on Fort Bragg. I started out as a cashier in the main PX and then went down to the shoe store part of the PX. I quit to get married and didn't work for a while. The marriage fell apart. I went to work for Carolina Telephone and Telegraph. I made a very big mistake that changed the direction of my life.
Later on, I went back to work for the PX in the shoe store. I really enjoyed working there, but I had the chance to get a better, (I thought), job. I went to secretarial school and started working for an insurance company. I enjoyed it very much, but the girl I replaced came back. I applied and got a job working for Meridian Motorcycle. I enjoyed it, but the boss wanted me to use MY Car to do the job. When I had car problems, he was not willing to cut me a break.
My wonderful husband said I didn't have to take that from anyone. I have been a homemaker ever since and that has been my job.
My pride and joy are my grandchildren. I love to be around them and hear them playing and getting along. My sons and my daughters make me one proud parent. I am so proud of each and every one of them.
My children are my heart and they are the best a mother could ask for.
I am an avid NASCAR fan and I love to watch it on TV, but for me what would be better is to be able to go to the race in person. That would be wonderful. My daughter got to go to Daytona for the Daytona 500 and I was so jealous!
My grandchildren are growing up so fast now. There are five teenagers in the family now. One of the teenagers in now in college. The other teens are still in middle school. The younger ones are in elementary school. There is a new baby in the family also.
